Autumn Term 2018
Our first topic this term is to delve deeper into why we are so amazing. To start the topic off we focused on the most important thing, ourselves. We thought about what we looked like; our eye colour, hair colour and our face structures. We also explored our families and the children created family trees. We then learnt about bones and organs, we found out some very exciting facts about our bodies. Did you know that you have 27 bones in each hand?
After we learnt about our bodies, we learnt about how to keep our bodies healthy by eating a balanced diet. We even had the opportunity to make and eat our own fruit kebabs, we loved them!
During a very wet playtime we thought it would be a wonderful idea to use the time to listen to each other read. The children really enjoyed listening to their friends read and asking them questions about the books. The children were reading their own reading books, library books or books from the our book corner.
It was a lovely opportunity for the children to sit back and relax and enjoy listening to new stories read in different ways.
Each week the children have the opportunity to bring something into school that they would like to show. The children bring in items that link to our topic.
Our topic at the moment is ‘Amazing me’, one of the children brought in her millipedes. The children were very interested and asked some wonderful questions.
When we learnt about ‘The Great fire of London’ one of the children made a beautiful cake for his show and tell.
We have also had one of our children showing us his guitar and he played them all a song which they all enjoyed.
We’re very talented in Year 2!
Before Christmas we all had the opportunity to use the apparatus in the hall. We all got to show how we could balance, jump and land safely. We were moving around on benches, the climbing frames and jumping blocks. We also tested our upper body strength trying to climb up the ropes, some of us even reached the top!
This week we were very lucky to have a visit from the Sherborne Fire fighters. We had the opportunity to go in a real fire engine, see all of the equipment they use and we even got to fire water out of the hose. As well as meet all of the fire fighters we were taught what to do if there was a fire – Get out, Stay out and Call 999! The firefighters also taught us about smoke alarms and why they are so important.
