The Child & Family Support Worker at Sherborne Abbey Primary School is Mrs Louise Robinson.
Child & Family Support Workers provide support and guidance to children to help them overcome social, emotional and behavioural problems which act as barriers to learning. Barriers to learning may include:
- Lack of confidence
- Low self-esteem
- Low aspirations
- Friendship issues
- Peer pressure
- Family difficulties
- Transition between schools
- Poor emotional skills
- Lack of social skills
- Poor attendance/timekeeping
If a child experiences one or a combination of the above, this may lead to insecurity, challenging behaviour, withdrawn behaviour, negative attitudes towards learning, ultimately resulting in the pupil not fulfilling their potential.
In school Mrs Robinson works with pupils, families, school staff and other professional agencies to help pupils develop their potential by removing such barriers. She helps children to develop strategies enabling them to overcome these barriers and become active learners. The aim is always to support the child and help them obtain the best possible outcome from their experience of school.
We also understand that parenting in never easy! Therefore, a variety of groups offering advice, support or a chance to meet other parents and carers are run in school. These include a coffee morning and from time to time a number of workshops including parenting and computer skills.
In addition, there is a new Parent Information Point (PIP) in the playground. This will be open most mornings from 8.45am and a chance for you to find out about clubs, check lost property or leave messages for teachers regarding hometime arrangements etc. Mrs Robinson will be available in the PIP so please feel free to talk to her about any concerns you may have.
If you would like any further information, have any questions or would simply like to talk about any issues you may have, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Robinson. She can be contacted in person via the school office, by phone or email.
